Our Mission & Vision
Creating a compassionate community where no one has to navigate the journey of grief alone.
Our Mission
At Teesside Grieving Hearts, our mission is simple yet profound: to provide a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space for anyone experiencing the pain of loss.
We believe that grief is not a disorder to be cured, but a natural human response to loss that needs to be witnessed, shared, and supported. In a world that often rushes people to "move on," we offer the permission to pause, reflect, and heal at your own pace.
We are a peer-support organization. This means we are not doctors or clinicians sitting behind desks; we are fellow travelers on the path of grief who have come together to support one another.
Our Core Values
These principles guide every coffee morning, every article we publish, and every conversation we have.
Compassion
We approach every story with kindness. We listen more than we speak, and we offer presence rather than platitudes.
Community
Isolation amplifies grief. We build bridges between lonely hearts, fostering friendships that extend beyond our meetings.
Safety
What is shared in our groups stays in our groups. We create a confidential environment where vulnerability is honored.
Inclusivity
Grief touches everyone. We welcome people of all faiths, backgrounds, and ages. Your loss is valid, whoever you are.
"Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim."
"The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss."
"What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us."
"Grief is the price we pay for love."
"There is no grief like the grief that does not speak."
Our Approach to Support
We understand that walking into a room of strangers to talk about your deepest pain can be terrifying. That is why we keep our approach simple and informal.
-
No Pressure to Speak: You are welcome to come to our meetings and just listen. There is no requirement to share your story until you are ready.
-
Peer-Led: We are not therapists. We are people who have walked this road ourselves. We offer the wisdom of lived experience.
-
Holistic Resources: From our AI Companion for 3 AM insomnia to our library of articles on legal and emotional challenges, we try to cover every aspect of loss.
